Biolo1100 Chapter 9 Meiosis
  1. In sexually reproducing organisms, gametes are produced by meiosis  , whereas somatic cells are produced by mitosis   in a sexual reproductive cycle.

  2. Meiosis involves two cell divisions, each containing a prophase  , metaphase  , anaphase  , and telophase  .

    • Unique features of meiosis include synapsis  , homologous recombination  , and reduction   division.

    • Another consequence of meiosis and sexual reproduction is increased genetic diversity  .
